5 Reasons Your Business Should be on Social Media

These days all businesses should put some serious thought into their social media presence. Even though top dogs like Apple and Microsoft have led the way, there’s no reason smaller companies can’t join in the action as well.  There are endless benefits to joining a site like Twitter, Facebook or YouTube. Here are five reasons your business should be on social media.

1. It shows you’re moving with the times

Not too long ago, if a business had a website, they were thought to be modern and forward-thinking. However, those days are long gone.  Now, most customers and clients will be expecting a business to have a presence on at least one social media channel.  It’s not uncommon for people to bypass sites like Google and Yahoo when looking for a business and instead search via social media.  What will they think if yours doesn’t show up?

2. Reach

Twitter has over 300 million monthly active users – and that figure is quickly growing by the day.  Facebook has even more.  The Mark Zuckerberg-created platform now boasts an incredible 1.71 billion monthly active users.  A large proportion of these active users are businesses – both growing and established – that have realised the benefit of building a social media presence.  These businesses can now reach millions with the click of a button, so why shouldn’t yours be able to do the same?

3. It’s a chance to connect and engage

It’s vital that businesses have strong communication with their customers and clients.  And social media is a fantastic means of opening up a dialogue.  Customers usually relish the opportunity to give feedback – whether it is positive or constructive – through social media platforms.  If your business is on social media, it gives you a chance to monitor the reception and build your business around the feedback.  This cannot be undervalued.

4. Show your business in a different light

Businesses that embrace social media have the opportunity to present themselves in a completely different light.  While small businesses may rely on word of mouth, larger ones may be locked into traditional advertising methods like commercials or billboards.  The joy of social media is that it can show your business to have a little bit of personality.  Why not share a picture of your team or a short video with some behind the scenes footage? Or if you want to uphold an air of formality, why not direct people to industry-related content on the web that you’ve found interesting?  These techniques can work wonders when it comes to helping people see another side to your business.

5. Use social media for marketing

There really is no better way to tell people about your business than through social media.  For starters, it’s free.  Forget about all those costly methods your business has been relying on and instead promote your services for absolutely nothing.  Perhaps there’s a special offer that your customers should know about?  Or maybe you’ve just completed a project that prospective clients may be very interested in checking out?  Most platforms even offer ways to boost content; however, this usually comes at a price.

Countless businesses have incorporated social media into their overall strategy and are now reaping the benefits.  Don’t fall behind. Instead, make the most out of this evolving communication method and watch how much your business can grow right in front of your eyes.
